What We Think We Want

Psalm 143:10 says "Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness." What a beautiful reminder of how God is truly our Father, our teacher and our leader! This verse should be one of those verses that we utter all day long, to let those words flow from our lips as we go through the daily grind of life! God wants us to ask Him to help us, to teach us and to KNOW that His Spirit is good! We need to desire to be upright and strive to attain it! So why do we think we know what's best for us? What we think we really want is never truly what makes us happy in the long run anyway. Why? Because it's mostly out of the Will of God! Stop for a moment and think about something you really, really wanted, had to have and have it NOW. Picture the excitement when it was within your grasp, when you could reach out and touch it and then you suddenly had it! Ah, how awesome was that feeling?! But now  remember how short lived those "feelings" were. Yes, we've all been there and drove our carts down that road several times! Sometimes, it becomes quite slippery too! Our flesh got in the way. Our heart's desires overrode God's voice and direction. It's sort of like buyers remorse.....I don't have to explain that one because we've all been there too!

And each time we dive into that pool of "wants" we end up swallowing a little too much water, choking and gasping as we frantically swim to the surface where we see the light kissing the top of the pool! That's God! He told us not to dive, we dove anyway! So now He's shining His light for us to return to, and get back into, His will for us....He's just letting us choke a little so we remember how it feels the next time our "wants" get put before His will! He will let that happen to us as a lesson, but He won't let us drown! We can do that all by ourselves! Tough love? Maybe, but in the whole of things, it's our own stubbornness and free will that keeps getting us into those situations in the first place! We know if we wait for the Lord, if we are patient for His blessings, and desire to do His will and stay IN it, that there is absolutely NOTHING better than a LASTING and ETERNAL happiness! Much better than those fleeting, quickly dissolving feelings of euphoria we get when WE want something and get it on our own! God's perfect will and plan for us always better than what we think we want in this life, here on earth. I'm reminded of Romans 12:2 again, about not being conformed to this world but being transformed.....so many lessons in that one powerful verse!

I really desire to be taught the will of the Lord and I've learned so many things because I have asked for revelations. I know when my will is done, it's outcome never lasts. It's a disaster actually! It never makes me truly happy, not like that everlasting, spirit-filled happiness that His will produces! Each time I've sought the will of the Lord, what an amazing and magnificent eternal experience! Sometimes it's hard, no doubt about it, however, the satisfaction and transformation that comes from the power over the flesh is something that words can't describe! God gives us that power as soon as we accept His Son and what mighty things we can do if only we wouldn't let our flesh get in the way. What we think we want never is what we need, and sometimes, God lets us have what we want to teach us yet another lesson in His love for us. How? By letting us get what we want, finding out it wasn't so great after all, then turning to back Him for His will to rest upon us! We then can see how much more amazing His will was over what our wants were! Sometimes, he lets us have our wants, then other times, He says NO, His plans are better for us! It just takes 30 seconds to speak, "Teach me and show me Your will Lord!" And He will!

There's only really two choices for us; 1) Ask for His will to be done and have eternal happiness or, 2) Dive into the pool, get what we want and have a temporary, short-lived bout of satisfaction....I'll choose 1!!
