The Cult of Personality

Part of the definition of a cult is as follows:
1) Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing.
2) A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
3) A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
4) A quasi-religious organization using devious psychological techniques to gain and control adherents

Obviously that isn't an all-inclusive definition but it closely defines a cult and it's characteristics. The increasing number of cults in today's society is primarily due to the fact that cults are a social movement attempting to help people cope with their perceived problems with social interaction. The operative word being "perceived." They tend to target those who perceive themselves as different from the rest of society, who are emotionally or mentally broken and then try to give these individuals the sense of belonging that they crave. The cult weakens the follower psychologically by making him or her depend upon the group to solve his or her problems. They provide a "controlled" family environment that appeals to potential cult members because it's a removal from the exterior society. Misfits if you will searching for others just like them for a sense of belonging and conformity. The leader is always very charismatic. Very personable but also very egotistical and controlling. He will usually preach that society is on the brink of destruction, reinforced by isolating their members and controlling the flow of information within the cult. They manipulate members with guilt and fear. He is typically mesmerizing and overly caring to his cult members because that's part of the "stripping away" of who they once were in order to mold them into what he wants them to be, how he wants them to act and eventually control what they do. Control is usually  the overwhelming factor and can cover most aspects of the followers' lives: Dress codes, activities, finances, time, possessions and relationships. They can dictate to the member “who they can see, what to do, what the right thing is to say, and how to say it.” Every cult has a leader like this. It has to have a leader who will be able to prey on the weak and broken, emotionally and mentally, so they can be under his total control. This guarantees their loyalty to him and their make-shift family. Cults are what I see as mind manipulating movements designed to attract the easily manipulated, the ones who won't question authority and willing follow what the leader commands, and demands!


Some of the methods of control which are used are usually FEAR of displeasing God, the leader, or both. Fear is NOT of the Lord, fear is of the devil!! Fear of rejection, punishment, losing ones salvation, missing the rapture, going to hell. Guilt, fear,  and intimidation are just some of the weapons used to maintain their loyalty and devotion to the group. Loyalty and devotion are the two things a cult strives to receive from their members because it nearly guarantees success. Intimidation and accusation are the most often used. For example, any questioning of authority is treated as rebellion, and not trusting. They suppress questions and conform to the groups behavior. They aggressively discourage critical or rational thought and questions and will reply with comments like, "Satan is the cause of all doubt; he is keeping you from the Truth," or "It will take time to understand the deep things of God." Critical thinking is discouraged because it's called prideful, sinful or rebellious. No independent thinking is encouraged and for good reason. If one independently thinks and questions what is happening, then they will be able to reveal the truth. Truth is NOT the center of a cults principles.


Every cult has a single powerful human leader. In fact, all cult leaders will proclaim themselves as a god here on earth. Remember Jim Jones? Charles Manson? L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology? David Koresh? And how about Adolph Hitler? Harold Camping? They all have proclaimed being a prophet, messenger of God or the Messiah Himself. Cults are apocalyptic and believe themselves to be the remnant who will survive the soon-approaching end of the world. Did you know the Pope does this as well? Yes, it's true! Take a look at some of the hard evidence they have said themselves and you be the judge:

1) "The Pope is not only the representative of Jesus Christ, he is Jesus Christ himself, hidden under the veil of flesh." Catholic National July 1895.
2) The title "Lord God the Pope" is found within a gloss of Extravagantes of Pope John XXII, title 14, chapter 4, In an Antwerp edition of the Extravagantes, the words, "Dominum Deum Nostrum Papam" (Our Lord God the Pope) can be found in column 153. In a Paris edition, they are found in column 140.
3) "It seems that Pope John Paul II now presides over the universal Church from his place upon Christ's cross," said Bishop Dunn, who traveled with seven other prelates to Rome. What does the Bible say about that? Isaiah 45:22, "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else."
John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

The cult leaders word, or teachings of the cult become absolute truth overshadowing the Word of God. In fact, ALL cult leaders declare their traditions, "doctrines" and inspiration are above the Bible. They have to proclaim this because the Bible exposes them. They need to make the Bible appear fallible so as to ingrain the thought processes that makes man’s word appear superior to God’s Word. Man's word can't even begin to be superior to God's Word! What does the Vatican say about their own tradition?

1) "...the church is above the Bible, and the transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact" Catholic Record of London, Ontario Sept 1,1923.
2) "The Pope has power to change times, to abrogate laws, and to dispense with all things, even the precepts of Christ. The Pope has authority and has often exercised it, to dispense with the command of Christ." - Decretal, de Tranlatic Episcop. Cap.
3) (82) As a result the Church, to whom the transmission and interpretation of Revelation is entrusted, "DOES NOT derive her certainty about all revealed truths from the holy Scriptures alone. BOTH SCRIPTURE AND TRADITION MUST BE ACCEPTED AND HONORED WITH EQUAL SENTIMENTS OF DEVOTION AND REVERENCE. Catechism of Catholic Doctrine Page 31

The Holy Inspired Bible says the following in relation to the above:

Mark 7:7, "Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
Isaiah 8:20, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

The Inerrant Word of God

The Christian church will adhere to the Christian God’s Holy Inerrant Bible as the sole authority, while a cult ignores the written Word of God in many key areas. Those key areas are the areas that are TRUTH and they will twist Scripture to their advantage, taking it out of context of how and why it was written, but leave just enough truth to appear as a church. As we begin to look closer, we find they don’t rely on Scripture at all. In fact, they rely on what Jesus refers to as doctrines of demons and traditions of man over and above the Scripture. Biblical jurisprudence is defined by Isaiah when he says in Isaiah 8:20, "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." So if a "church" or a cult claims to be a Christian church, take the Bible and line it up with the lack of fruits it bears and it will be proven otherwise. The Bible alone can, and WILL, expose all non-Christ believing faiths, or cults, because God defines a Christ follower clearly by everything Jesus IS! Everything Jesus is, is everything those sects, or cults, aren't and never will be!!

Each cult uses force to coerce its members into submission. Most cults today will use high pressure tactics to get people to not only join them, they also resort to extreme measures to make them stay. They do this mainly because they know the loved ones of their converts would eventually reveal their hidden evil agenda to them causing them to leave the cult. And once again, let's see what the Roman Catholic church says:

1) "There was no village of the Vaudois valleys but had its martyrs. The Waldenses were burned; they were cast into damp and horrid dungeons; they were smothered in crowds in mountain caverns, mothers and babes, and old men and women together; they were sent out into exile in the winter night, unclothed and unfed, to climb the snowy mountains; they were hurled over the rocks; their houses and lands were taken from them; their children were stolen to be indoctrinated with the religion which they abhorred. Rapacious individuals were sent among them to strip them of their property, to persecute and exterminate them. Thousands of heretics" or Waldenses, "old men, women and children, were hung, quartered, broken upon the wheel, or burned alive and their property confiscated for the benefit of the king, and Holy See."-Thompson - The Papacy and the Civil Power
2) "On August 24, 1527, Roman Catholics in France, by prearranged plan, under Jesuit influence, murdered 70,000 Protestants within the space of two months. The Pope rejoiced when he heard the news of the successful outcome."-(Roman Catholic publication) The Western Watchman, Nov.21, 1912
3) "The Catholic Church has persecuted ... when she thinks it is good to use physical force she will use it... Will the Catholic Church give bond that she will not persecute?... The Catholic Church gives no bonds for her *good behavior*." -Western Watchman, Dec. 24, 1908

The reason Rome killed these Christians is widely known. Even as recently as March 12, 2000 the Vatican admitted they did this to Christians thinking they were doing God’s will just as Jesus predicted they would think. John 16:2-3, "They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me." A Cult will teach a Gospel of  good works in place of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Again, like Jim Jones, Charles Manson, and even some of the more "gentle" cults of today. Their leaders always taught that you must work your way to Heaven. Jim Jones declared the Kool-Aid  work that will “set them free.” Charles Manson declared murder was their good works. Of course, some cults will use works of murder and mayhem, while still there are others that use good works as their requirement. Ephesians 2:9, "Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Romans 6:23, "... the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." 

Cults will oftentimes urge their members to leave their families, possessions and their lives as they knew it behind. This is to strip them of their "old life and ways" to brain-wash them into the cult leaders "new ways and life." It's a common practice where the cult leaders force their members totally away from families to prevent them from learning the truth about the cult they are now a member of. All too often some governments and law enforcement authorities have had to step in to break up such "communes" because of what is happening lately. Their reasoning for doing this has to do with the mass suicides many of these cults are known for and the violence and abuse that eventually is uncovered within the organization/institution. Once a member has been lured into their cult, they are brainwashed, and taught everyone outside the cult are evil and hell-bent on their destruction.

Now, a cult is oftentimes led by a leader defined by what I've described above, but a sect, or cult, can also be found in many of today's man-made denominations because many "religions" do not profess the Lord Jesus Christ as the ONE and ONLY WAY to the FATHER GOD in Heaven! And the "leaders" of these "religions" teach false doctrines and also indoctrinate their members as well. God doesn't like "religion" and that was NOT His intention when He created the world, life and everything in it! Every tongue, every tribe and every nation was given God's sacrificial Son on the cross for all of our sins! John 3:16 says it very clearly,  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." It says the WORLD! That covers every single person who has graced the earth!! No matter where you live, what color you are, no matter what tribe you are from or what language you speak! That's how wonderful God really is! He is ALIVE. In modern day religious cults the "god" they serve is dead, satanic, man-made or were merely mythological deities created through ancestral heritage. Buddha, Allah, Krishna, Muhammad, Zeus, Baphomet, Horus and that's just to name a few!

The Lord God wants you to know HIM, to follow Him and to trust in Him. Jesus is alive and living in the hearts of many people today! His light shines through them differentiating them between belonging to a God of love, life and truth from the gods of hate, lies and death. He wants to live in yours too! If you recognize that you might be worshiping a dead "saint" a lifeless god, an idol or a mythological deity, seek the Lord's face, cry out to Him and He will show His face to you! He will save you from the lies! Seek and you shall find! Jesus loves you! He wants you to reign on High with Him and His Father God! Won't you make the decision today to repent of your sins, to believe solely on Jesus Christ, and to accept Him as your personal Savior!?! He's waiting on you.........
